Efficiency Tips! |
Increase
combustion efficiency using FuelSaver or similar devices
(pay back in under one year)

Replace
the old central heating system boiler with an energy-efficient
condensing boiler (pay back in few years)
Close
windows and doors stop heat escaping.
Install
draught proofing (grants may be available for this).
Fit
polythene window film. This is easy to do. Simply stick
to the window frame with tape and smooth out using a hair
dryer. This acts in a similar way to double glazing. (cost
recovered in under one year)
Make
sure you know how your heating system works. Use a thermostat
for temperature control and where possible, programmers
or time switches so that the heating can be set to come
on and off when you need it.
Fit
secondary double glazing (pay back in longer term)
Arrange
for professional draught-proofing (cost recovered in one
year)
Fit
thermostatic radiator valves (pay back in few years)
Lag
the hot water cylinder.
Have
separate thermostat and control fitted to the hot water
cylinder. Make sure this is not running above 60 degrees
Centigrade. (cost recovered in under one year)
If
you have thermostatic radiator valves turn these down in
rooms where you do not require as much heat.
Install
cavity wall insulation (pay back in longer term)
Place
foil behind the radiators to reflect heat back into the
room.
If
you have a central heating thermostat turn the temperature
down by 1 or 2 degrees. This could reduce your bill by around
5%-10%.
Have
the boiler regularly serviced to maintain efficiency (cost
recovered in one year)
Have
cavity wall insulation fitted - you may can get a grant (cost
recovered in one year) |
